I’ve been featured!

I was recently featured on the "dlog" over at Awoo Pets. They are a small company based out of New York making sustainable pet accessories from recycled plastic. We use their Roam Harness and Infinity leash on our daily walks and love em. If you want to read a bit about myself, my art, and my greyhound go check out the feature on their site 🙂

Hello! It's March today. Thought I'd do a bit of a round up of what went on in my life the past month. Also I'm just realizing I didn't do a year in review post (which I have done the previous two years). I guess it felt like the year didn't really end since we are still in lockdown.

Gouache Practice

Before accepting the fact that I needed to rest my wrist and take an extended break from art, I started up a daily gouache practice. Gouache is something I've been meaning to learn for several years. I love the opaque and chalky look of it and the vibrancy of the colours. I bought a 24 colour set of gouache paints from Arteza, a more affordable option to the Windsor & Newton and Holbein varieties that I see all over Instagram. I got the paints, tried them once, and then they sat in a pouch on my art shelf for eight months. I'm sure that's a relatable series of events, especially with something aspirational like art supplies.

Greyhound Skateboarding Animation Process

A greyhound skateboards past a book store

To make this illustrated scene, I followed Abbey Lossing's Skillshare tutorial. I think the tutorial is a good project-based way to learn After Effects, but I would say maybe it would be better as a second or third project, rather than your first time opening the program.

Social Media Growth and a Draw This In Your Style Challenge

An illustration of a girl in winter outerwear with her greyhound

Well! I can't believe it but a few nights ago I reached 10,000 followers on my instagram account. I've been working hard on my account for the past year since I decided I wanted to focus my career on illustration, and to see it grow in this way has been really validating, especially since I can't work on my business in a lot of ways while I wait for my green card.

Interviewed by an Art Student

I've been asked a few times by students in school for art and design to answer some questions for their assignments. This is super flattering and makes me feel like a for real legitimate illustrator (byyyye imposter syndrome!). Anyways, the most recent request was from a girl in Chile and I thought I'd share my answers here in case others were wondering (probably not but oh well here it is).

Art Block OH NO

So this is something I’m pretty sure every artist and creative person has experienced at some point in their life. No matter what’s going on at your life, sometimes the inspiration and motivation is flowing and other times…it’s not.

Animals of Yellowstone

An illustration of an elk, or wapiti

Hello and happy Tuesday! Last week I was away camping in Yellowstone, and spent a lot of time on the trip illustrating the wild animals I saw there. They were, in a word, magnificent. I wanted to cry they were so beautiful and pure.
